DER Overview

The DER’s mission is to train high-level researchers and educators capable of addressing major societal challenges related to infrastructure, materials, sustainable construction, energy efficiency, and the environmental transition.

It pursues a twofold objective:

  • An education of excellence, grounded in a rigorous scientific approach and open to innovation, advanced technologies, and environmental challenges (structural resilience, energy efficiency, carbon footprint, risk management, etc.).
  • The advancement of scientific research—both fundamental and applied—in the fields of Civil and Environmental Engineering, in close collaboration with research laboratories, socio-economic stakeholders, and local communities.

The ENS’s Civil and Environmental Engineering Department (DER) thus offers scientific programs in topics related to materials, structures and engineering works, buildings, energy, and the environment.

The theoretical and technological instruction provided is reinforced through hands-on practice using real test benches or simulation tools.

Partnership

Our program is based on the Master’s in Civil Engineering at Paris-Saclay University, which is administered by ENS Paris-Saclay and CentraleSupélec.

The program maintains numerous connections with academic research laboratories (LMPS, LMEE, etc.), research organizations (ASNR, SEISM Paris Saclay Institute, BRGM, CEA, IFPEN, CSTB, …) as well as with companies (Bouygues, EDF, SNCF, ECOCEM, PAREX, Vinci, TOTAL, Schlumberger, …).
